Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I adopt from Everybunny Counts?

More bunnies are being surrendered than being adopted out. By adopting a bunny from us, you will be saving TWO lives — the bunny you adopt and the one that takes its place at the rescue!

Not to mention, all our adoptable bunnies are fixed, fully vetted, behaviorally assessed, and potty-trained. In addition, we highly encourage our foster parents and volunteers to socialize with our bunnies, so they are in extremely good care.

Are indoor homes required for bunnies?

Yes, our rabbits require indoor housing. Between parasites, predators, and temperature swings, there are a lot of dangers for bunnies outdoors. Garages are not considered indoor housing unless they are temperature-controlled and have been converted into a living space.

Where do your bunnies come from?

Many of our bunnies were rescued from parks, neighborhoods, by highways, or shopping areas in the central Connecticut area and reported by caring community members to us at Everybunny Counts. Some of our bunnies were born into our care after their pregnant mothers were rescued. Abandoning pets is a crime, but a sadly common phenomenon. Other bunnies are surrendered by owners facing difficult situations.

We have an ongoing list of adorable bunnies up for adoption on Petfinder. In addition, you can follow us on Facebook and Instagram for frequent updates on our current foster bunnies.

How long will it take for bunny to adapt to my home?

Every bunny is different, however it generally takes around 6 months for a bunny to finally feel settled and happy in their new home.

How do I decide which bunny is right for me?

We generally have 10-20 buns in rescue of all different sizes, breeds, and ages. Once your adoption application is approved, we will gladly answer any questions regarding specific bunnies and discuss which bunny would be best for you.

Do you adopt out baby bunnies?

No, we do not adopt out baby bunnies because they are too young to spay/neuter. If you are interested in caring for a baby bunny, please consider applying to become a foster with Everybunny Counts. Many bunnies we rescue are pregnant and give birth to babies while in our care, and these babies need foster placements who can handle the joys — and the messes — associated with baby buns.

Do you have rabbits who are not featured on your site?

All rabbits currently available for adoption are featured on Petfinder. However, Everybunny Counts always has other rabbits in foster care awaiting their spay or neuter surgery. We often post about recently rescued rabbits on our Facebook and Instagram. Check back regularly for new bunnies!

Do you offer bunny matchmaking services?

Yes! At Everybunny Counts, we have an Adoption Counselor who can guide you through the process of bunny matchmaking. All bunnies must be spayed/neutered prior to “dating”.

I got approved! What now?

Congratulations! Once we decide which rabbit(s) you would like to meet, we will arrange an adoption appointment at our facility with an adoption counselor.

Appointments take place on Saturdays and Sundays only. If you fall in love with your bunny, you can sign the adoption contract and take them home that day!

What if I want to return my adopted bunny?

While our adoption fee is non-refundable, we do ask that you surrender the bunny back to Everybunny Counts at no additional cost, so we can continue to find the bunny a new home. We always take back bunnies that’ve once been in our care. PLEASE DO NOT ABANDON YOUR BUNNY.

Due to the high volume of inquiries and applications we receive, we are unable to answer questions regarding care of rabbits, housing, behavior, or specific bunnies until your application has been approved. We invite you to research and explore all of the information available on reputable websites. The House Rabbit Society offers a great deal of information.

Adopting from Everybunny Counts was so wonderful that I did it twice! The staff are so knowledgeable, kind and committed to matching rabbits with their perfect families. I recommend them wholeheartedly to any current or future bun parent.

Whenever a family comes to adopt a bunny, we do ou Whenever a family comes to adopt a bunny, we do our best to match the right bunny with the right family. Although many families come in with specific bunnies in mind, we like to think the bunnies choose their families too

This was certainly the case for two of our Thanksgiving Side Dish boys this past spring! Brussel Spout’s mom knew she wanted to meet him, and, as you can see, he chose her right back. Gravy Boat also fell in love at first sight with his family! We love when a match feels right and our bunnies fit in right away. Seeing them find the perfect forever family is what keeps us going

Flop Friday meets Hoppy Adoption! Our Friday Flop Flop Friday meets Hoppy Adoption!

Our Friday Flopper this week is Mashed Potato! Potato was one of our Thanksgiving Side Dish Babies who went into our foster-to-adopt program and was officially adopted after his neuter this past spring. He has become known as Flying Potato for both his binkies/zoomies and his perfect helicopter ears! We love to see our alumni living their best lives. Thanks to his mom Leeanne for the great photos 💖

It’s been one full WHEEK with the Addams Family! It’s been one full WHEEK with the Addams Family!

The Addams family— including their barely day-old babies— were abandoned alongside a trail in the South End of Hartford last week. Luckily, one of our fantastic volunteers found them not far from their open cage, and was able to scoop them up and bring them to us. Thus began our short stint as a multi-species rescue!

In addition to the Addams family, we brought in ELEVEN new bunnies last week- a mother and daughter who had been abandoned as well as a mom, dad, and seven brand new babies. As you can guess, we are once again at full capacity

Here’s where you come in: please help us with supplies! Our literal and figurative piggies are burning through hay faster than we can bring it in. Sending us boxes of hay off our wishlist is a huge help. The pigs and buns would also love more tents to hide in and toys to play with.

🔗 to our wishlist in the usual spot! Or comment “Going shopping” below and we will send it to you directly. Thank you!
It’s Tongue Out Tuesday! Today, we’re featur It’s Tongue Out Tuesday!

Today, we’re featuring Fruit Gusher, who was one of our record number adoptions last week. He was a little lost in the sauce after his neuter, and we couldn’t help ourselves but snag these adorable photos. Gusher eventually recovered very well, and he 10/10 recommends good pain control after neuter surgery 😂
