about us

everybunny counts rabbit rescue

Everybunny Counts has been a 501(c)(3) nonprofit since 2016. We began as a small independent rescue in Naugatuck and later moved to Bristol, CT, where we operated out of the historic J.H. Sessions & Sons clock factory downtown. When the building was sold in the winter of 2021, we continued our mission through a network of foster homes.

In December 2023, with the support of our incredible community and a grant from AEFCU, we opened a new facility in Ellington, CT, giving us a fresh start and a permanent home.

Over the past seven years, through the dedication of past and present leadership, including our current president Becky and vice president Kristin, we’ve rescued and adopted out more than 600 rabbits!

Why are Rescues Important?

We are experiencing a rabbit homelessness crisis in the state of Connecticut. A lack of education about rabbit ownership has led to widespread impulse buying, often followed by hasty rehoming and in some cases, illegal outdoor dumping of rabbits.

Contrary to popular belief, domesticated rabbits are barely related to our native wild cottontails and are not equipped to survive outdoors. The average rabbit dumped outside survives less than 48 hours. Those who do survive are critically injured or ill.

Animal shelters often lack the capacity and specialized skills to care for their complex medical needs and place them in proper homes. Because unaltered rabbits can easily and frequently reproduce, they are often euthanized when they are not placed quickly.

At Everybunny Counts, we provide comprehensive medical care to even the sickest of rabbits. We believe that every bunny deserves a chance to live a happy and healthy life and are committed to helping them all.

Why Rabbits?

Rabbits are not only undeniably cute, they are extraordinarily intelligent beings capable of forming deep bonds with other rabbits and humans

Despite being the third most popular pet in the world, rabbits are often treated as livestock

This outlook creates unsafe standards and conditions of living for these sensitive animals

We see the tremendous value that human/rabbit interaction has added to our lives and want to share the gift of rabbit companionship with the world

Through hands-on rescuing of dumped outdoor rabbits, providing education to the general public and advocating for policy changes that affect rabbit rights we are creating a world where all rabbits are safe, happy and healthy

ways you can help bunnies

  1. Donate. We rely heavily on donations for rabbit food, shelter, and medical bills. Every cent of our donations go straight to caring for our bunnies.
  2. Foster. We are a foster-based organization, caring for as many as 20+ rabbits at a time throughout central Connecticut. Join our foster network.
  3. Adopt. We have several rabbits of all different breeds and sizes listed for adoption on Petfinder. All rabbits are fixed, fully vetted, behaviorally assessed, and potty-trained.
  4. Volunteer. Our staff is comprised of all volunteers. We are always looking for more help. Currently, we could use transportation volunteers. Please apply today!

General FAQs

Help! I found an injured wild rabbit!

At Everybunny Counts Rabbit Rescue, we are only capable of rescuing domestic rabbits. For wild rabbits, please contact your local wildlife rehab center immediately. CT DEEP provides a list of licensed wildlife rehabbers.

Will you take my rabbit?

As much as we would like to rescue every rabbit, we are constantly flooded with surrender requests. You may contact us about surrendering your rabbit, however, we are most likely at capacity due to limited finances and resources. Please consider contacting your local animal humane center instead.

What should I buy for my new rabbit?

Please look into our recommended list of bunny essentials.

Can you help me find a local veterinarian?

Please look into our extensive list of rabbit-friendly veterinarians in Connecticut.

Do you provide bunny boarding?

Yes! For $35/night, we can keep your bunny overnight. Contact us for more details.

Do you take second-hand pet items?

Yes! We will happily accept your second-hand pet items. We ask that any used items are cleaned prior to donating. Please email us with your location and a description of the item(s). We will determine whether pick up/drop off is viable.

Please note: We may not be able to accept all donations due to distance.

Why don’t you disclose your location online?

Our facility is not open to the public, aside from advertised special events.

Please help us prevent illegal dumpings by not sharing our address with anyone outside of approved EBC volunteers.

We celebrated International Rabbit Day this past w We celebrated International Rabbit Day this past weekend in the best way we know- with our amazing volunteers!

Everybunny Counts is an entirely volunteer run organization, from our board members, to our fosters, to our daily volunteers. Most of us work full time and dedicate our free time to the bunnies. We could not continue the work we do without the generosity of all of our team members! All of the donated time, talents, and funds make the rescue work possible.

So, from the tips of our noses, to the ends of our fuzzy toes(es), THANK YOU VOLUNTEERS!

We are beyond heartbroken to share that Wrigley di We are beyond heartbroken to share that Wrigley did not survive the surgery to remove his abscess.

To be explicitly clear, Wrigley would have died without this surgery. His blood is entirely on the hands of his neglectful owners, who failed to get him medical care, and then put him out on the curb for free. Wrigley made it to rescue too late.

We are grateful to his finder, to everyone who donated to his care, and to everyone who sent words of encouragement. Wrigley was an Easter bunny- a gift for a child. He deserved so much better than the hand he was dealt.

Please honor Wrigley’s memory by sharing his story and advocating against the quick sale of animals, especially rabbits, who are often denied the protections afforded to them under the law.
**UPDATE** Wrigley sadly did not survive surgery t **UPDATE** Wrigley sadly did not survive surgery to remove the abcess from his shoulder. It was a very large mass & surgery was difficult. As a result, he passed away from complications.

DONATIONS NEEDED FOR WRIGLEY- THIS is why you don’t purchase rabbits for Easter!

We find ourselves saying “at least they didn’t (insert animal cruelty here)” pretty frequently these days. Today we said, “at least they didn’t just toss him outside to die.” But here’s what Wrigley’s previous owners DID do:

-Purchase an underage rabbit from someone who couldn’t even sex him properly. Wrigley was known as “Lilly” for the last 5 months
-Purchase an animal with little to no research, gift it to
a child for Easter (even though the warnings not to are everywhere), & then expect that child, who probably needs reminders to brush their own teeth, to take care of it
-Allow a mass the SIZE OF A BASEBALL (Wrigley- get it?!) to grow on Wrigley’s right shoulder, leaving him unable to hop correctly
-Neglect to bring him to the vet for the mass, or his raging ear infection
-Keep him in a cage unfit for even a hamster for his entire life, until:

Leaving him outside in his cage with a “for free” sign, with not a care in the world what happened next

AT LEAST the woman who found Wrigley wasn’t a pet flipper, a backyard breeder, or a kid looking for target practice. AT LEAST she wasn’t looking for a free meal for her snakes. Thank god Wrigley’s finder didn’t think twice before snatching him up & immediately getting in contact with us. AT LEAST there are some people who care about all lives, even when they weren’t initially our responsibility

Tomorrow, Wrigley & his baseball will visit Dr. Adair at VESH for an initial consult. We truly have no idea what to expect in terms of diagnosis & treatment, but we do know that even just diagnostics will be expensive. Wrigley will likely get bloodwork & imaging tomorrow, & our first bill for him could easily be $1,000.

If you can donate to Wrigley’s care, please do so via the 🔗 in the usual spot

If you can’t donate, PLEASE SHARE! Wrigley is just one of the lucky Easter bunnies- so many never have the chance to thrive the way we hope to give him
