TW: animal loss, mental health This summer nearl TW: animal loss, mental health

This summer nearly ended EBC. There were strays. Volunteers stopped showing up. Surrender requests exploded, as they do when leases end, Easter buns mature, & kids go to college. The bank account dried up for the 1st time in years, which has been an awful reminder of when our rescue was always on the brink

Then there was de@th. From June to Sept, 17 rabbits d!ed. 10 were preterm babies. One was Lychee Berry, who fought coccidia for weeks. Jovie, the premies’ mom, died at her spay, leaving us devastated. Grandma Beverly- who wasn’t introduced because I had to euthanize her 3 hours post-surrender- had a family for 10 years, only to bleed out from uterine cancer with a stranger. The last 4- Coriander, Iris, Slippers, & Chardonnay- were strays. They suffered from that neglect until they lost their fight or we made the loving choice to end it

We joke about de@th in rescue. We have to. But there are days when joking about a dirt nap with our Angels is less a joke & more a yearning. It’s hard not to want a forever break when you spend 7 days nursing a bunny only to return from pumping gas to find her cold, & a message from animal control asking if you can get to a cruelty site STAT. We barely have time to grieve before we get emails from the crematorium for payment

We know we chose this. We don’t want pity. We want awareness & support so we can continue the work but not worry about the “how.” We want you to speak up when you see animals treated carelessly so they never need us

These 2 are- hopefully- successes. DuoDuo & Baba are the smallest coccidia-ridden Labubabies. I’ve hand-raised them with help from foster mom Biscotti for 3 weeks. Their time should’ve been up, but their spirits are strong. They’re 1/2 the size of their siblings & growing. Baba loves sitting on my shoulder like a parrot. Duo rejoices in escaping her pen to chase my cats. Please pray for their health

WE ARE IN FINANCIAL STANDSTILL. We haven’t taken a rabbit in since mid-August & can’t until our finances are fixed. This summer cost us +$20k in vet bills, & the well ran dry after rent & utilities. If you can donate, please do so at the 🔗 in our b!0
🌾HAYYYY BABY! I wanna knooowwww could you buy u 🌾HAYYYY BABY! I wanna knooowwww could you buy us hay? 🌾

Let us know below if you add to our account! Thank you from our wiggly noses to our fuzzy toeses!
A celebration of Biscotti for Tongue Out Tuesday! A celebration of Biscotti for Tongue Out Tuesday!

Biscotti belonged to our new assistant facility manager Allie. Allie shared that Biscotti loved cheek and head rubs, and was absolutely crazy for bananas. She lived to the ripe old age of 11, but left a bunny sized hole in Allie’s heart, which inspired her to volunteer with Everybunny Counts. Goes to show how one small bunny can make a big difference!

We want to see your bunny’s bleps, mlems, and their best Tongue Out silliness too! Share your favorite photos with us for a chance to be featured

We’re celebrating tonight with Prosecco! (Prosec We’re celebrating tonight with Prosecco! (Prosecco the bunny, that is!)

Prosecco is the sister of our sweet Chardonnay and had been bonded with her. We would love to find Prosecco another mate to bond with! She’s a gentle, sweet girl who has come a long way socially after being found as a stray as a baby in Beacon Falls. Prosecco is very food motivated and has been known to circle your feet while waiting for her pellets! She hasn’t met a treat she doesn’t like, and she’s great about eating hay.
